How Can Luxury Hotels Provide True Luxury to Their Guests?

Luxury Travelers expect more from their vacation and business trips– that’s no secret. But when guests are accustomed to always having the best – the fastest wifi, the highest thread count sheets, professionally decorated homes – how can a hotel set itself apart? In 2017, it’s about three things; simplicity, technology and telling a story.

It’s a difficult to reach balance. Most people who can afford a luxury experience work hard. They need to be connected, but also want to unplug. How can you help them reach these seemingly contradictory goals?

Simplify their complicated lives

Provide opportunities to relax. Whether it’s offering wellness-focused spa treatments, high-end dining or serene room décor, it’s up to you to anticipate their needs. Even in the largest hotels, guests want that boutique experience. They want personal attention and prompt response to requests or concerns. They are accustomed to responding to business and family demands. Give them personalized attention. Note and remember their preferences. Don’t skimp on hiring – keep enough people on staff to see that guests are not kept waiting.

Offer the best activities

People of means make the time to take care of themselves, but they have high expectations for the type and quality of their workout facilities. If you don’t have in-house gym facilities or if your offerings are limited, look to your community to find businesses to partner with. Are there hot yoga, Pilates or barre method options nearby? Meet with owners to discuss providing discounted services to your guests. If you have the budget, or can add it into your room costs, consider picking up the tab for a class or two.

Provide top of the line technology

Wifi must be fast and always accessible.  Chances are even vacationers need to stay in touch and take care of business. If it takes them 15 minute to log into your network to accomplish a five minute task they won’t be back. Make it easy to check in online or via mobile. Allow them to order room service online. Replace room keys with a secure mobile app.  This all serves to speed guests through the must-do’s of their days, giving them time to relax.

Tell your unique story

Every destination has something that makes them stand out. Find a common thread that you can use in every aspect of the guest experience from reservation though check out. In a time when one hotel is much like the other, what can you do to make yours memorable to luxury guests and encourage return visits? For example, if your area is known for the quality of its local wines, offer private vineyard tours. Serve their wines in your restaurant. Pair them with local delicacies. Focus on the quality that make your destination unique.
