Take Advantage of the Latest “Bleisure” Trend

For decades, business travel has been considered a bit of a grind. Days filled with conferences, shows or meetings and evenings devoted to entertaining clients. Fall into bed, exhausted and wake up to catch an early flight, only to head straight back to the office.

As with many traditions, millennials are shaking up business travel. They are taking advantage of time on the road to blend leisure and business travel – creating “bleisure” travel. It’s a great way to manage stress, keep travel costs down and have a little fun.

How does it work?

Bleisure travelers are using the internet and a variety of apps to get to know the area where they will be conducting business and planning a little downtime. By adding a day or two before or after their business obligations, they can enjoy a little mini-vacation.

How can you take advantage of this trend?

Update social media.

Let business travelers know what there is to do in the area. Update Facebook, or share blogs with reviews, calendars and things to do in town so travelers will treat you as a reliable source of information and visit your site regularly. Whether you are a restaurant recruiter, hotel search firm or hospitality venue, position your company as a thought leader. Any content marketing in this area will really create a great connection when you suggest an event that travelers truly enjoy.

Fine-tune your email

Don’t stick to business when corresponding with your customers. Follow up reservation confirmations with emails or newsletters featuring things to do around their travel dates. Make it easy for your customers to find information.

Keep them on the property

Make sure travelers know all the amenities you have to offer as a leader in hospitality. Do you have a restaurant, spa, gym or pool? Include that information in any correspondence and on your website.

Be their home base

If there are local attractions, make it easy for them to get around while staying with you. Offer online or print maps with travel times and transportation options.

Accommodate their families

Bleisure travelers often use frequent flier miles or their own funds to include family on their trips. Let them know what activities are available for them to stay busy while they are waiting for a family member to finish their work.
