If you’re seeking a career with excellent growth potential that does not require a four-year degree, hotel management may be the answer for you.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and several online pay-aggregating websites, these facts also apply:

In lieu of a four-year degree, most positions require at least seven years of experience in the hospitality industry. But overall, hotel management offers some of the highest paying positions for the least amount of higher education.

A Growing Field

The labor statistics bureau reports that lodging managers – including hotel GMs – held 51,400 jobs in the US in 2010, a number forecasted to grow at least eight percent by 2020.

Make no mistake about it: It takes a person with drive, exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills, and 24/7 availability to pull it off. But outside of working in casino management, being a hotel general manager can be the best-paying job in the hospitality industry.
